Daily Author Interview : Heather Ashbury

1) Writing has always been in me; it’s something that I just can not stop my mind from doing. Any time I watch a movie or a show I can’t help but to mentally write out the dialogue and describe the scenes. It’s kind of exhausting at times!
2) I am a reader though I don’t read as much as I’d like. My most recent favorite that I’ve read is Kabal by Clive Barker. I love his descriptive writing and how he can keep me on the edge of my seat with his words.
3) My debut book is More Than Human, book one of a planned trilogy. I am currently working on book two titled More Than Wolf and I’m so excited for this book! Get ready for werewolf pirates!
4) My humble advice for other writers is to absolutely invest in an editor to go over your work – nothing puts me off more than consistent misspellings and grammatical errors. Also, always practice writing! I like to keep a little journal on my phone for me to write down descriptions of things in my environment or dreams that I have. Writing about anything helps improve your work. Just like anything else, it takes practice.
5) My biggest influence as a writer comes from two authors: Amelia Atwater-Rhodes and Annette Kurtis-Klause. Amelia inspired me as a tween because I discovered that she had published a book at the age of 15 and I thought if she could do it, then I could, too. I didn’t actually publish until I was 31, however. Annette’s story Blood and Chocolate really made me fall in love with werewolves and sparked my desire to write my own shifter fiction. If it wasn’t for those two women, I don’t know if I’d have a published book today.

Daily Author Interview: Kim Clayton

1) What inspired you to write?
I’ve always wanted to write, and I have tried writing books before, but with Slip on Through: Cielo Drive, it was COVID that got me back into writing. I went into lockdown not wanting to waste the opportunity, and I was very blessed to come out of it with this book.

2) Are you a reader? What are some of your favorites?
I read a lot of non-fiction books, as I am a history teacher. Fiction-wise, I really like Stephen King. 11/22/63 is my personal favourite. I also love James Herriot books, that I have read passionately since I was younger.

3) What is your newest work, and what is going to happen in the future?
Slip on Through: Cielo Drive is my debut novel that I am really proud of, and still a little mystified that it has been published. I have a sequel called Slip on Through: Watergate coming in April 2021, then at least another three books in the series after that.

4) Do you have advice or tips for Indie Authors?
Be tru to yourself and make sure that you do what is right for you. The first option is not always the best option.

5) What influenced you as a writer?
History has influenced me. I love history and want to bring that love to others through historical fiction.

Author Interview: Jason DeGray

  1. What inspired you to write? I know this is cliché now, but I’ve always written. Seriously. I started my first novel when I was 12. I was accused of plagiarism in 5th and 6th grades because the stories I wrote for assignments were “too good for a kid to write.” And I’ve always told stories and created worlds with my toys. I just moved that play into the literary world and started putting my worlds and adventures down on paper.

2) Are you a reader? What are some of your favorites? I really love reading old stuff. I’m a nerd for pulp fiction and authors like Robert E. Howard, H.P. Lovecraft, and that circle. I also really love Philip K. Dick’s books and short stories. I also really enjoy reading the mythologies and cosmologies of ancient cultures and religions.

3) What is your newest work, and what is going to happen in the future? My latest book is 3vE, a post-apocalyptic noir scifi novel. I’m going to be writing a few books in the scifi genre and am about to finish the first novel in my “space western” series called Quad City Blues.

4) Do you have advice or tips for Indie Authors? Stick to the story. I see a lot of people in writing groups stressing about things like the color of their MC’s shoes or the geo political history of one country of their massive fantasy world. My question to all of these is: How does it drive the story? Because that’s where the focus should be. Everything in your book from the characters, to the world, to the smallest details are there to push the narrative and get the MC from the beginning to the end. If it’s not needed for that EXPRESS purpose, then it isn’t really needed at all.

5) What influenced you as a writer? Other writers, of course. Reading books by my favorite authors as well as biographies of their lives, enchanted me. I wanted to be just like them, to tell my stories to the world and have them read by people all over. It’s all I’ve ever really wanted in life.

Daily Author Interview: Madilynn Dale

1) What inspired you to write?

I was inspired to write by a change in my life. I have always enjoyed reading and when I was pregnant, I began to write out some of the dreams I had. From there my husband encouraged me to turn them into a book and the rest is history.

2) Are you a reader? What are some of your favorites?

I am a huge reader. I have shelves and stacks of books as well as a ton of ebooks. I was that person everyone went to in school to borrow books because I always had them. Some of my favorites are the Harry Potter series by J K Rowling, the Throne of Glass series, A Court of Thorns and Roses series both by Sarah J Maas, The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, and several series by Ivy Asher are all in the top favorites.

3) What is your newest work, and what is going to happen in the future?

I am currently working on a book that focuses on a young woman named Ember. She discovers she’s not your typical wolf shifter but a creature of hell. I plan to work with this character and her story for the time being, but many other ideas are forming in the back of my mind.

4) Do you have advice or tips for Indie Authors?

My advice is to keep writing and learning. The Indie platform is exploding and ever changing.

5) What influenced you as a writer?

My creativity is greatly influenced by the environment around me. I have had many friends, teachers, song artists, and more that have influenced my writing. The world is full of inspiration if you know where to look.
