Author Interview: C.M. Cordle

1) I have always loved writing and the arts. I have an overactive imagination, and when I get an idea I NEED to write it down. It is an escape and a way of creating stories that I want to read.

2) I have been an avid reader my entire life. The librarians used to joke that my pile of books was taller than me when I was a child, and my peers would tease me on how much I read. But I loved escaping and living in another world or in the shoes of someone completely different, even if it was just for a few hours. As an adult, I have fallen in love with fairy tale retellings and fantasy. Juliet Marillier, Kate Morton, and Liane Moriarty are a few of my favorite authors.

3) I just published a children’s book through Amazon this past fall. It is a project I did with someone I have been friends with since kindergarten. I am also in the process of editing a draft of my first adult novel, which I look forward to getting published. I have rather too many ideas for other books, both adult and children, so I full expect to continue writing and publishing the creations of my imagination.

4) For other Indie authors, I would say just keep plugging along. Make sure you are doing something you love and turning out work you are proud of. The rest will come.

5) A lot of the influence for my writing has come from favorite authors and stories, and my own life experiences. I have always found it fairly easy to step into another person’s shoes and understand where they are coming from, and I think that has really helped my writing and the development of my characters.

Author Interview: Crystal Cherie

1) What inspired you to write?

The answer to this question never really gets any easier! I had a traumatic early childhood, and books were my escape. A story was the one place I could go to get away from the bad, so I poured myself into all kinds of books. From the moment I binge-read my first book, I knew I wanted to write them for the rest of my life.

2) Are you a reader? What are some of your favorites?

I think all good writers are readers (at least, that’s what I grew up hearing). I still love to read stories. My TBR pile is getting out of hand, though! I’ve got so many good books from other authors I want to read in between doing my own work.

3) What is your newest work, and what is going to happen in the future?

My newest book is called House of Neptune. It’s the second book in my planned, 6-book series and is releasing this December. The first book, House of Pluto, is out now. It is my absolute love child between two of my most favorite vibes: Harry Potter x Sailor Moon. But the story itself revolves around a girl named Robin (“Rob”) who just wants things to go back to normal, but what’s normal when you’re only half human, your best friend is dead, and you can suddenly control the power of angels?

4) Do you have advice or tips for Indie Authors?

I spent several years just dabbling in writing, and my absolute best advice is to invest in your writing. That includes your time, energy, and resources. We all dream about having our stories in the hands of others, and it takes real work to get it there!

5) What influenced you as a writer?

I think going through hard things in life and wanting that escape was my first major influence as a writer. Because I thrive on that escape factor, I cling to sturdy worlds, unique characters, and well written villains. I especially like the work of Jude Watson (Judy Blundell) and Cassandra Clare. I hope their writing styles have influenced mine somewhat, because I think they’re great authors to emulate!

1) What inspired you to write?
I began journaling as an adolescent and I believe it was my source of escapism and processing feelings/emotions that were boiling over. I still use it to express myself and to encourage others to either learn lessons or have discussions that may not otherwise be discussed until someone else braved the consequences of putting themselves out there like I do.

2) Are you a reader? What are some of your favorites?
Yes, I have several favorites from many genres but the one I consistently read over and over is the book of Esther in the Bible.

3) What is your newest work, and what is going to happen in the future?
My first published book is Kingdom Of Grace, and it’s continuation will be out by the end of 2022.

4) Do you have advice or tips for Indie Authors?
Write all the moments that you can, and self-publishing works for many….and make sure you have a supportive network to help you with all the things non-writing related because that will suck a lot of time away from you.

5) What influenced you as a writer?
God. There are things that have happened in my life since I started writing again and published that cannot be explained except by the grace of God.

Author Interview: William Tchatchou

1) What inspired you to write?

What inspires me? Sometimes it’s reading good stories or reading bad ones. I find inspiration from a lot of places and I splice them together to make my ideas whole.

2) Are you a reader? What are some of your favorites?

I love reading though my wife is a speed reading demon so I can never really do a book club with her due to my brain traveling at the speed of a salted snail. When in doubt I love horror, though fantasy and science fiction is my first love, a good horror novel is so hard to find that when I find one it’s my “thing” for years.

3) What is your newest work, and what is going to happen in the future?

I self published the Hotel of Madness which is currently Book One of the Boy King Series. Currently Book Two which will hopefully help ruin Christmas so I’m excited about that.

4) Do you have advice or tips for Indie Authors?

Run. If you want to be an indie author go run a mile, feel the pain in your lungs and know that if you can survive that you can probably live with the anxiety of self publishing.

5) What influenced you as a writer?

H.P Lovecraft, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Charles Stross

Author Interview: Kimberly Hennessy

Hello and thank you for taking my interview! My name is Samantha Evans! If you would please fill out the questions below then attach it to an email along with a picture of book and links to social media platforms, and I’d greatly appreciate it. You can email it to sammerzevanz149@gmail.com. I load the interview to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and my blog with over 2000 followings. Thank you, and have a great day!

1) What inspired you to write?
I’m always spinning a story. I’m always thinking of some cool setting, or plot. I didn’t think I could do it as a career, and it never really crossed my mind until I hit my early 30’s when I realized that I had always been writing. In high school, and university I was always that girl that looked forward to essays.

2) Are you a reader? What are some of your favorites?
Yes, I love to read. My favorite books are Moll Flanders by Daniel Dafoe, and Brave New World, but I also very much enjoyed The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice just to name a few.

3) What is your newest work, and what is going to happen in the future?
My latest novel is She Runs With Wolves. I plan to release a sequel which I’m currently outlining at the moment and since I’ve dubbed myself the Slow Writer I’m not sure exactly when it will be release. I hope in the following year.

4) Do you have advice or tips for Indie Authors?
Your first draft is not your book. It’s usually the beginning of several edits, and the book might change drastically. I know mine did very much. You think because all your ideas have been committed to paper that you’re in the final stretch, but the truth is you’re just starting so don’t get discouraged, and don’t give up. Writing is 20% creation and 80% refining and editing.

5) What influenced you as a writer?

Other books, authors, films, and television series. As Quentin Tarantino said during a 1994 interview with Empire magazine, “I steal from every single movie ever made.”

I borrow, bend, twist ideas from works I admire and from real life, places I’ve been and people I’ve encountered. Everything is fair game.

Author Interview: Billie Jade Kerack

What inspired you to write?

I have an overactive imagination and writing was a way for me to declutter my thoughts and ideas. I also had a lot of support from my mother who said I could be anything I wanted in life and if I hadn’t found the story I had been searching for then why not write it myself.

Are you a reader? What are some of your favorites?

I’ve always loved to read and I usually bounce between genres depending on what project I am working on or what mood I’m in. Strangely true crime is my relaxation reads. With kids I absolutely adore audible as it allows me to multitask. Some of my favourites include Siobhan Davis, Stephen King and Jodi Ellen Malpas.

What is your newest work, and what is going to happen in the future?

HALLOWED is the final book in the dark paranormal romance series I am currently working on and it will be ready for consumption this Halloween. I am also working on a collection of standalone contemporary romances that are all vying for my attention at the moment so its what character shouts the loudest right now.

Do you have advice or tips for Indie Authors?

Plan and prep your story, know your world and your characters inside and out.

I actually started up a blog, TheSableScribbler, for indie authors with tips and tricks that I have picked up over the years, I also interview professionals in other aspects of the industry so they can give their advice.

What influenced you as a writer?

Although I have read hundreds of books, I am more of a visual person, so the majority of my influences is from film and real-life interactions. I can meet a person or witness an exchange and within five minutes I have an idea that I can either use for characters I’ve already created or new ones to add to the list. Something as little as the way someone drinks their coffee to how they react when a loved one smiles can be important to me.

Author Interview: Kate Seger

1) What inspired you to write?

This question is always hard for me because it’s just something I’ve always wanted to do. When I was a little kid, my mother would have to physically remove my notebooks from my hands at the dinner table and hide them when I went to bed. Otherwise, I would spend all night writing when I should have been sleeping. It sounds cheesy to say, “I was just born needing to write,” but it’s the truth. When I don’t write, my mental health suffers for it. For me, it’s a need.

2) Are you a reader? What are some of your favorites?

Voracious reader! Laini Taylor’s Gods and Monsters series goes down as my #1, hands down, with Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses series not far behind. I also love Holly Black, Kendare Blake, George RR Martin (although I also hate him because I have been waiting to learn what happens in Game of Thrones since I was 15 years old). Stephen King’s Dark Tower series and The Stand, Gone with the Wind… We could be here all day, so I’ll stop there.

3) What is your newest work, and what is going to happen in the future?

My most recently published book is Tria Ellinka. It’s a stand-alone of three Greek Mythology retellings (Echo and Narcisuss, Scylla, and Psyche and Eros) told from female perspectives. I’m currently working on the third and final book in my YA Fantasy Ethereal Realms Trilogy. And, yes, I did write Tria Ellinka to procrastinate writing the end to my series!

4) Do you have advice or tips for Indie Authors?

Find your process and stick with it. I was a Creative College major in college, and for many years I struggled with trying to write the “right” way. Elaborate plotting, outlines that would always go off track within the first five thousand words, notebooks full of world-building. I learned over time that while all that prep work is great for some, it really stifles me creatively, and I’m much happier with my work if I just go with the flow and let my characters decide what story I’m going to tell. So, try different processes, and when you find one that works, stick with it. There is no “right” or “wrong” process.

5) What influenced you as a writer?

Other books in my genre. One of the first “adult” books I ever read was The Dark Tower by Stephen King, which I stole from my dad’s bookshelf when I was ten. From there, it went on to the other books I listed above and many, many more. My love of reading fantasy inspired me to write fantasy.

Daily Author interview: Iveta Ongley

1. What inspired you to write?
I’m a children’s author as well as an early childhood teacher. So, it’s children that have been my biggest inspiration. Although, it’s true that I started to think more seriously about writing only last year when my younger daughter was born. Until then, everything was written on pieces of paper and in notebooks.
2) Are you a reader? What are some of your favorites?
I love fantasy, when I don’t read children’s books. One of my favourite writers is Terry Pratchett. It’s extremely sad that there won’t be any new fresh work written by him.
3) What is your newest work, and what is going to happen in the future?
My newest book was published in June. It’s Book 2 in my magical chapter book series The Adventures of Rosie Hart. It’s called Mermaid Rescue.
I’m in the final stages of editing and finalising the illustrations for Book 3. Release date will be late November.
4) Do you have advice or tips for Indie Authors?
Being an indie author is hard but I love it. It gives me a lot of freedom in my creation process. The advice I would give is to research a lot prior to publishing, get everything organised and make a schedule of what will happen before, during and after publishing. The after is important, don’t skip that.
5) What influenced you as a writer?
I love fun books. Dr Seuss was definitely a huge influence, his rhymes are hilarious. However, there were lots of other authors and people in the profession.

Daiky author interview: Monika Prolux

1. I have
always enjoyed writing, but my book is a true story, detailing my daughters battle with depression, which was brought on after years of bullying.

2. Yes, I love to read and I enjoy a variety of genres, ranging from true stories to fantsies, mysteries, self-help, romance, eyc. etc. One on my favourite authors is Wally Lamb, but recently I have been reading a lot of new authors.

3. Continued. I am currently working on a coaching program to help parents with their troubled teens.

4. My advice is to keep going. Dedicate some time everyday to write. The first draft will not be perfect, but don’t give up. Make sure to get the manuscript edited, and show your presence on social media.

5. I had a drive to get my story out, and was blessed with getting to know some fantastic authors like Kary Oberbrunner, Niccie Kleigl, Lori Gurnett and many others. Their stories of success inspired me to keep going.

Daily Author Interview: Michael D. Young

1) What inspired you to write? I was inspired from a young age to write because I was such a voracious reader. I loved the feeling of being transported out of my regular life to somewhere wondrous and I wanted to inspire this same kind of positive escapism for other people. I’ve always been imaginative and it brings me joy to apply my imagination in this way.
2) Are you a reader? What are some of your favorites? I love large sci-fi and fantasy series. I’m a big fan of authors such as Terry Brooks, Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Brandon Sanderson, and others.
3) What is your newest work, and what is going to happen in the future? My newest works are the completion of my fantasy trilogy that started with “The Hunger”. They are called “The Thirst” and “The Longing”. I have so many ideas I’d like to work on and so for the time being there will just be more and more writing. I hope to expand the universe of this series with stories set in other timeframes of this world’s history.
4) Do you have advice or tips for Indie Authors? Learn as many useful publishing skills as you can yourself. There are so many resources that can help you learn how to format books, how to edit, how to create covers, and many of them are even free or low-cost. The more you can take care of yourself, the more money you will save in production, which means you’ll make more with each book.
5) What influenced you as a writer? I have emulated the style of writers whom I enjoy, but I’ve also been inspired by different movie franchises, including Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, but also from many video games, such as those in the Final Fantasy series.
